Compare Fromm Game Bird 4LB and Diamond Naturals Lamb 40LB on bag size, protein source, and price per pound to decide which dry dog food fits your dog.
Quick answer
Choose Fromm Game Bird 4LB if you want a small, grain-free bag with turkey and goose to test or rotate recipes. Choose Diamond Naturals Lamb 40LB if you need a large, lamb-based bag for steady everyday feeding at a lower cost per pound.
Bag size changes how you feed and store
A 4-pound bag suits households with one small dog, a picky eater you are still testing, or a rotation schedule where the food is finished before it goes stale. A 40-pound bag lowers the frequency of reordering and the cost per pound, but it demands airtight storage and a consistent feeding routine so the food stays fresh through the whole bag.
Neither product record lists a kibble size, so if your dog is a fast eater or a toy breed, check the physical kibble before committing to a large bag.
Protein source and formula differences
Fromm Game Bird uses turkey, turkey broth, and goose in a grain-free blend that Fromm describes as complete and balanced for dogs of all ages and safe to alternate with other Four-Star recipes. Diamond Naturals Lamb is a lamb recipe positioned as a protein-rich everyday diet. If your dog has eaten lamb before without issue, the Diamond bag is the simpler repeat purchase; if you want to introduce a poultry mix or rotate proteins, the Fromm bag gives you a smaller trial size.
Price per pound and value trade-off
At the listed catalog prices, Fromm Game Bird 4LB costs more per pound than Diamond Naturals Lamb 40LB. The Fromm price buys a smaller, grain-free specialty blend; the Diamond price buys volume and a straightforward lamb formula. Paying more per pound only makes sense if the smaller bag prevents waste or if your dog specifically needs the grain-free poultry mix.
Trade-offs to weigh before you buy
- Small bag vs large bag: Pick the 4-pound Fromm bag if you are testing a new protein or feeding a small dog; pick the 40-pound Diamond bag if you have a settled routine and storage space for a large bag. Measure your dog's daily intake and estimate how many weeks each bag will last before ordering.
- Grain-free poultry mix vs lamb recipe: Fromm Game Bird combines turkey, turkey broth, and goose in a grain-free formula; Diamond Naturals Lamb is a lamb-based recipe. Match the protein to what your dog has already eaten successfully.
- Cost per pound: The 40-pound Diamond bag costs less per pound at the listed prices. Choose Fromm only if the smaller size or grain-free poultry blend is worth the higher per-pound cost to you. Compare the total cost of feeding for a month, not just the shelf price.
